What's Wrong with the Church?

Church has changed over the years. Ever since the early church movement, the church has been changing, growing, and adapting to new life styles. Somewhere along the line, something went wrong. What is the church doing so wrong today? This is the question I was burdened with today.

What's Wrong with the Church?

1. Lack of Trust: God calls us to action. Today's Christian lacks the trust to step out of their comfort zone and act on that call.

2. Lack of Passion: What happened to the passion, boldness, and zeal that the early church had in the book of Acts? Did we lose it somewhere along the way? Are we missing something?

3. Tradition/Ritual: Tradition and church ritual have choked out the truth.

4. Acceptance of Culture: We're growing more and more adapt to the society of sin. Tolerance has turned into acceptance.

5. Lost Love for God's Word: We are growing a generation that's prone to be Bible-illiterate. Christians have lost sight of our God-breathed privilege.

6. Lost Love for Christ: Jesus loves you, now it's time we start loving him back.

The worst part about these problems is that the list could go on. There is no question that today's church in general has "gone to hell." The good news to this story is that there is still hope. We'll find out what we can do to turn things around in our next post: What Now?

  1. 1.God doesn't tell us to do anything but believe in Jesus to be forgiven. There is no call to Action that you speak of. If you want so called action why don't you give up your worldly possessions and money to the poor and do what Jesus did?
2.Why did Christian lose this so called "zeal" from the earlier books of the bible? Well it isn't really civil to kill people who don't believe in what you do like the God from the Old testament like you to do.
3.I believe this too and couldn't agree more!
4.When you say "society of sin" what do you mean? Wouldn't Jesus teach us to accept each other cultures and treat them as we would want to be treated? http://i.imgur.com/GuAR8.jpg <- a picture you need to see
5.I believe Christan do need to read there own bible. Most of them don't and just listen to what everyone says about and act like sheeple.

    1. Hey 'Anonymous'! I'm Noah, and am the 'second half' of this little site. Though I didn't write this blog, I'm sure Scott won't mind me stepping in.

Firstly, thanks for reading the post! We're all for dialogue, and want to hear your thoughts.

For your first point I'd direct you to James 2:14-17
" 14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead."

If you really loved and were passionate about basketball, would you ignore it? Or would you wear jerseys, hang posters of your favorite players, go to games, and play the game yourself? The point is that when something has changed you and you're passionate about it, it shows. And it should.

Concerning your thoughts about accepting other cultures (as well as the picture you linked), there is a difference between 'tolerating' and 'accepting'. I'm a big fan of analogies, so I'll use another one: say you have a friend who was is alcoholic. It is totally fine to be friends with him, love him no less. But do you accept his alcoholism? Do you think it's fine? It's cliche, but nobody's perfect. This site is somewhat just getting started, and we plan to address the 'tolerate' vs 'accept' topic.

And the picture! It's great. I have some slight qualms with some points in it, but to go through each one would be a full conversation in itself! The general point of it though, is that people don't live like Christ would have them, and that there's a lot of hypocrisy in Christianity, and I agree. It's a problem, and I think part of this site/project's aim is to fix that.

Thanks for the comment, and keep 'em coming if you have more! I hope you have a good day too.

  2. @anonymous....
    1. The author is not talking about salvation. The NT is full of a call to action. Here is a quickie for you: Love your neighbor as yourself..[Matthew 22:39]
So in everything, do to others as you would have them do to you. [Matthew 7:12.]
....everyone is called in a different way.

    2. For the rest of your points I will refer you to a great film.

Christianity is not a business or a political party (works on both sides btw) but it definately is a call
